This still happens today. Some snakes, dogs, cows and many other animals including humans a small few times end up with two heads. Sometime only one head has consciousness and sometimes both heads have consciousness. It happens a lot with twins. The snake one was a bit weird. I seen it on tv once and it would just wiggle a lot because both heads would not agree on which direction to go.
